Kristina J. Owens is the National Peace Corps Association Board of Directors Mid-Atlantic/Nationwide group Representative 2012-2015. She represent RPCVs and the RPCV groups in the Mid-Atlantic Region which includes RPCV/W; Maryland RPCV; Virginia RPCVs and the Nationwide groups: LGBT RPCVs, State RPCVs. Ms. Owens was previously RPCV/W's Strategic Partnership Director, treasurer and RPCV/W's Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Liaison and Event Manager. Kristina was a Peace Corps Masters International student in Forestry at Michigan Technological University. She served as a Natural Resource Volunteer in Bolivia 2000-2002. Besides teaching environmental science and English to students in a rural southern Bolivia community, she worked on her Masters project on the genetic diversity of the cherimoya fruit tree; a delicious fruit traditionally grown in the Andean valleys. Kristina is currently a Plant Biologist at USDA. She works on developing molecular disease detection methods for Sweet potatoes, Potatoes, Sugarcane, Blackcurrants, Raspberries, plums, peaches and cherries. Kristina enjoys swimming, traveling, being with friends & family and learning new things!
