AmaniDC
Amani ya Juu (“higher peace” in Swahili) is a sewing and training program for marginalized women in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and Liberia. Women from many African nations and cultures are learning to work together through faith in God who provides a higher peace that transcends cultural and ethnic differences. Amani’s wide selection of high-quality handbags, home & kitchen décor, jewelry, and children’s items are made out of local African materials. Product sales enable each woman to earn consistent income. For more information, visit www.amaniafrica.org.
Established in early 2009, AmaniDC, our Mt. Pleasant location consists of a retail boutique for Amani products, along with the main US office and warehouse. The DC-based staff and volunteers join with others around the US to partner with the Amani centers in Africa in selling products and sharing with others the mission of Amani. As an Amani center, it is a self-supporting operation with the mission to share God’s peace by supporting the Amani family and reaching out to our neighbors. This location seeks to replicate the culture of Amani’s Africa centers through hospitality, outreach, and working together in unity.
