Friends of Nigeria

Friends of Nigeria is a community of nearly 2,000 returned Peace Corps volunteers and staff – as well as returned volunteers from other international programs – who served in Nigeria. FON was formed in 1996 and is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Supported by approximately 500 dues paying individuals, FON welcomes as members all Nigeria Peace Corps alums and other friends of Nigeria who support our mission statement and pay our annual dues.

FON’s goals include:

  • Foster communication among members through a newsletter, website and interactive listservs;
  • Promote publicly accessible archives of historic photos, recordings, memorabilia and documents;
  • Sponsor and promote reunions of FON members;
  • Fund projects aimed at making a positive impact on the lives of Nigerians; and
  • Promote a better understanding of Nigeria.
