  • Join your fellow Washington-based RPCVs at Haydee's Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant for this fun social event!

  • How do you make sure you’re asking for the right salary? What can you do to get the best possible offer from a prospective employer? What are some ways to overcome common obstacles like nerves or answering salary questions too soon?

Develop your salary negotiation strategies now in an interactive workshop! You will learn best practices in conducting market research, overcoming obstacles during the application process, and negotiating a final offer.

About the facilitator: An RPCV from South Africa, Dr. Ronda Ansted worked in many positions in the non-profit and international development field--including business development and recruiting--before starting her private practice, Be the Change Career Consulting. Her struggles with the job search when she was a new RPCV inspired her to work with people who want to make the world a better place, and to leverage their strengths to make meaningful and rewarding contributions to society. She is the creator of My Career Design Studio, an interactive, gamified, career coaching app based on positive psychology and neuroscience, with an international user-base!

Want to improve your physical or mental health? Want to get in tune with your body? Come join other RPCVs for a free 2-hour yoga workshop on Sunday, August 19, at 2:30pm at the Mt. Pleasant Library.
RPCV/W’s Wellness Coordinator will lead a 1-hour yoga class, which will be followed by an hour of yoga nidra, or yogic sleep, led by guest teacher Mike Stickley.
    About Our Wellness Coordinator:
Alle Kamela studied with yoga master Sri Dharma Mittra in New York City. Dharma Yoga is a graceful, yet challenging form of yoga based on Sri Dharma’s 50+ years of practicing classical yoga. Dharma Yoga focuses on Hatha-Raja Yoga but it also incorporates all Eight Limbs of Yoga. The practice aims to improve the physical, mental, and emotional bodies.
This is an introductory (Dharma I) class, and everyone is welcome regardless of prior yoga experience or flexibility level. Although each Dharma Yoga class may vary, the essence and goal is the same - to improve on strength, flexibility, concentration, and peace.

RPCV/W Goes to Peace Corps Connect!

Each year, the National Peace Corps Association (NPCA) holds the Peace Corps Connect conference. This year it will be held in the Pocono Mountains in Shawnee, Pennsylvania! RPCV/W will be taking two vans from the DMV area up to the conference and back. Please join us and reserve your spot today. We are asking for $20 per individual who rides our van to cover the cost of transportation (i.e. gas).

And because we have arranged this carpool, NPCA has generously given us a 10% discount on conference registration when you use the code "rideshare10"! Please take a look at the conference website for more details on the conference and registration prices. Discounted prices are also available for recently returned volunteers!

For those who have RSVP'd, the organizers will contact you in order to arrange an exact time and location for pick up. At this point, we plan to leave the DC area around noon on August 23.
