You're invited to support the Peace Corps’ participation in the 2014 Capital Pride celebration! In addition to the parade with country flags on June 7 and the festival on June 8, Spectrum (the Peace Corps’ LGBTQA employee resource group), is doing a few new things this year, including T-shirts, a float, Pride in your host country language, and more! Read below for more information:
RPCVs, HQ staff, and friends needed to carry host country flags at the 39th annual Capital Pride Parade
Join us in marching in the parade and carrying your host country's flag. There's only one for each country, so first come, first served. If you have a particular flag you would like to carry, please email [email protected] with your name, phone number and preferred country.
There are 139 country flags, so it may be good to have a second choice. Please RSVP to [email protected] by Monday, June 2 if you’d like to participate. If you aren’t an RPCV, you are more than welcome to march and carry a flag. Just email your preference.
Here is the route of the parade through Dupont Circle and ending at 14th and R streets: http://www.capitalpride.org/parade/parade-map
Peace Corps won the award for The Harvey Milk Award for Public Sector Contingent in 2011 and 2012. Can you help us do it in 2014? http://www.capitalpride.org/parade/contingents/awards
Get a Peace Corps Pride 2014 T-shirt!
This year, Spectrum has designed a shirt with the Peace Corps logo/name and Pride 2014. They are $15, and you can order them here: http://www.customink.com/signup/7hxzi3h8 Deadline for orders is 5/26.
Help Design/Build the Float!
This year’s Capital Pride theme is Build Our Bright Future – which is perfect for the Peace Corps! For the parade, we are going to rent a trailer and BUILD something on it. The current concept is a recycled bottle school/classroom, something that Peace Corps Volunteers might build at their sites. If you would like to contribute to this – ideas, design skills, creativity, labor, sweat, materials, etc. — email [email protected]. Sarah Blazucki is taking the lead on this and would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE help. Also, if you have a pickup truck (with a tow hitch) that we could use for the parade, please let Sarah know ([email protected], 202.692.1370).
