THERE ARE NO MORE VOLUNTEER OPENINGS THIS YEAR FOR THIS EVENT. Let's volunteer at the Smithsonian National Zoo's Annual Boo at the Zoo event. You can register to volunteer here. We will be volunteering on Saturday, October 21st from 4:30-8pm. We will walk to Macintyre's nearby for drinks and dinner afterwards. Please sign up for the event and RSVP here and we will send out more details closer to the date. Volunteers receive a sandwich during their shift.
From the Volunteer email:
Boo at the Zoo will take place Friday, October 20th, Saturday, October 21st, and Sunday, October 22nd from 5pm-8:00pm each night.
As in past years, guests will be treated to 20 treat stations around the zoo while enjoying fun vignettes featuring frolicking skeletons and fantastic creatures liven up the Zoo's main pathway, Olmsted Walk. The Elephant Community Center, Small Mammal House, and Reptile Discovery center will be open, and the animals offered spooky enrichment and tasty treats.
As always, the success of this family-friendly children's trick-or-treating event relies on the generous support of our volunteers. Please sign up to help with one, two, or three nights at treat stations around the park!
Volunteer shifts are from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on October 20, October 21, and October 22. Volunteer check-in begins at 4:00pm each night. You are welcome to volunteer for one, two, or three nights! Please specify which night(s) you want to volunteer for when you sign up in VSys (instructions included below).
And we know you're wondering the answer is YES! Volunteering at Boo does count toward your annual hours!
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
Staff will provide on-the-job training on the night of the event.
Volunteers should be comfortable with hilly terrain and moving a possibly lengthy distance to their assigned station.
Volunteers must be comfortable being outside for the duration of the event. The event is rain or shine.
Dinner will be provided. A vegetarian option will be available, but we are unable to accommodate other dietary restrictions. Please plan accordingly.
We encourage all volunteers to utilize metro to maximize available parking for paying event guests, however limited parking will be available for staff and volunteers at Holt House by the vet hospital.
This year, volunteers will also be provided with an event t-shirt! Volunteers are encouraged to wear fun hat/headband or accessory. Masks that are not scary and do not fully cover your face also work. The event shirt can also be worn over a costume.
