My son's language immersion school, Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School, through a KaBoom! grant, will be hosting a playground build for the children pre-K3 to kindergarten (ages 3-5). Along with the school administrators and some parents I am requesting some of my RPCV community to lend a helping hand. Volunteers need to be 18 or older and are asked to assemble playground pieces, mix concrete, move mulch, and more.
Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty and closed-toed shoes.
Gloves, goggles, breakfast, and lunch will be provided.
Youth activities will be provided
Executive Director Erika Bryant (RPCV Guinea 1991-1993) along with my wife (Ukraine 2011-2013) and I (Lesotho 2003-3005, Ukraine 2011-2013) will be in attendance.
Nearest metro station is Capitol Heights (10 min walk from school). Parking is available on 56th Street NE off of East Capitol St SE, Blaine Street SE between 56th Street NE and 57 Place NE, and on 57th Street NE down to East Capitol Street NE, but NOT on East Capitol St SE in front of the school
The community build is 8am-3pm and we would appreciate volunteers starting at 8am. If you're only able to volunteer part of that time that is okay as well.
All volunteers are asked to complete a waiver at https://www.tfaforms.com/4696109
Email me if you have any questions.
Thank you and hope to see you there!
