Hello RPCVs of the District!
Want to do something really “cool” this February to celebrate our President’s Day Holiday?
How about pulling out your warm cycling clothes, pumping up those bicycle tires, donning a helmet, and joining up for a cool group ride from DC to Mt. Vernon? We will be riding the Mt. Vernon Bike Trail – an awesome way to shake off the winter blues, get some fresh air, see some places you’ve never explored, and do something positive for your health.
As an added bonus to having a lovely ride along the Potomac River, we will be touring President Washington’s Mt. Vernon home for free! For that Monday only, Mt. Vernon has free admission.
The total round trip distance from DC to Mt. Vernon and back is approximately 38 miles. Not sure you can ride that far? No problem – you can join us (at almost) halfway at Belle Haven Picnic Area.
Some basic details:
- Monday, February 17th
- Gather by 9:45 am at the Jefferson Memorial (by snack hut, road side, BEHIND Jefferson); Rideout at 10AM sharp.
- Second meeting point at Belle Haven Picnic Area; Rideout at 11AM sharp.
- Arrive at Mt. Vernon by 12 NOON.
- For those riding the whole loop, arrive back in DC between 3 and 4 pm depending on how long folks want to visit Mt. Vernon.
