  • Saturday, April 29 - 12:00 AM 2023 through May 31, 2023

    Online

La Clínica del Pueblo, a local nonprofit organization, is hosting its 4th Annual Walk-a-Thon for Health this year - and we have decided to create an RPCV/W team.  La Clínica provides comprehensive health services to low-income Latinx immigrant communities in the DC Metro Area that are culturally and linguistically appropriate – so this is a great cause to support!

The Walk-a-Thon is a ton of fun and can help you stay active, with a little friendly competition built in.  Once registered, you get instructions on how to download the MoveSpring app and join the virtual Walk-a-Thon by syncing the step-counting device of your choice to the app.  You get to compete both individually and as a team from April 29th – May 31st.  Individuals and teams have the chance to win prizes and glory for things like getting the most steps in a day or walking the furthest distance.

Our team name for the virtual Walk-a-Thon is “RPCV/Walkers” – so make sure you join once you’ve downloaded and signed up in the MoveSpring app! There is also an in-person kick-off event/walk starting at 10am at Malcolm X (or Meridian Hill) Park on Saturday, April 29th.

If you still want to support but aren’t interested in the competition, you can still support La Clínica and the team by donating in honor of my team at www.lcdp.org/donate. Under where it says “in honor of” just write “RPCV/Walkers” so the donation counts towards our team!

So what are you waiting for?  Click HERE to register now!

  • Let's volunteer with Anacostia Green Boats at Heritage + Kingman Islands in SE DC. We will pickup trash while kayaking. We volunteered here September, 2022 and the organizer said we were the hardest working group they've ever seen. Let's do better this year! We will meet here at 9am.

    How to Arrive:

    1) You can park in the RFK Parking lot next to the entrance to the Kingman And Heritage Islands Park and walking into the park and over the bridge to the meeting spot.

2.) You can bike here. Kingman And Heritage Islands Park is adjacent to the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail.

3.) The entrance is a 20 minute walk from the Stadium-Armory Metro Station.

    Actual Event:

We will be broken into two groups. One group will be in kayaks picking up trash with pickers and one group will be on land picking up trash and then we will switch. There are boats for 13 people so hoping we get 26 volunteers. Afterwards we will categorize and weigh the materials we have collected. This is a really fun activity and a great organization to support. Hope to see you there.

    SERIOUS RSVPS/Only.
